How to use the safe zone checker
- Drop in a frame of your video, a thumbnail or the video itself. Videos play muted on a loop; drag the slider to check a specific moment.
- Pick TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. The shaded parts are where the app can put its buttons, caption and top bar.
- If you post the same video everywhere, pick "All three". The dashed box is the area that stays clear on every app.
- Move any text, face or logo that falls in the shade, then check again.

Where the numbers come from
- TikTok: Measured from TikTok's safe zone template, which is drawn on 720 x 1280 (top 160, bottom 440, sides 80, button column 200 wide from 720 above the bottom) and scaled x1.5. From "TikTok Auction In-Feed Ads (safe zone file "In-Feed Standard Version LTR")". TikTok says a longer caption covers more of the bottom, and anchor or right-to-left ads use other templates.
- Instagram Reels: Meta: leave at least 14% of the top, 35% of the bottom and 6% on each side free of text and logos. From "Instagram Reels video ad specs". Reels ads with a disclaimer should keep the bottom 40% (768 px) clear.
- YouTube Shorts: Google publishes these pixel values on its 1080 x 1920 safe zone image for vertical video ads. From "Use square and vertical video to engage mobile customers (Safe zones for vertical video ads on YouTube)". Google notes that buttons move with the ad format, campaign type and screen.
Examples
- Text hook at the top: start it below 288 px, under the Shorts search icons and the Reels title bar.
- Burned-in captions: keep them above 1248 px. Reels and Shorts reserve the bottom 672 px for name, caption and sound.
- Logo or price tag on the right: keep it left of 888 px, and left of 780 px in the lower half where TikTok stacks its buttons.
Why your screen may not match exactly
Safe zones are a margin, not a pixel-exact map. The interface changes with the phone's screen shape, the app version, ads versus normal posts, and caption length. On screens taller than 9:16, Meta may zoom the video to fill the screen and trim the edges. The button sketch in the checker is our own drawing of roughly where things sit, not a screenshot.
Safe on all three? Post it to all three at once
Upload-Post publishes the same vertical video to TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts in one go, from the dashboard or the API, and can schedule it for later.
Post to TikTok, Reels and ShortsFAQ
What are the TikTok, Reels and Shorts safe zones in pixels?
On a 1080 x 1920 video: TikTok keeps 240 px top, 660 px bottom and 120 px each side clear, with its buttons taking 300 px on the right from 840 px down. Instagram Reels: 269 px top, 672 px bottom, 65 px each side (14%, 35% and 6%). YouTube Shorts: 288 px top, 672 px bottom, 48 px left and 192 px right.
How do I make one video that is safe on all three?
Keep text and faces inside the box from 120 to 888 px across and 288 to 1248 px down, and stay left of 780 px below 840 px for TikTok's buttons. Pick "All three" in the checker to see it.
Are these numbers for ads or for normal posts?
They come from each platform's ad guidance, the only place TikTok, Meta and Google publish safe zone numbers. We did not find official numbers for organic posts. Normal posts show the same kind of interface (name, caption, sound and a column of buttons), so the ad numbers work as a margin for both.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The file opens straight from your device in this page and is never sent anywhere. Closing the tab clears it.
